Songfacts®:

  • Olivia Lane wrote this song with Nashville songwriter Lee Thomas Miller and her producer Ilya Toshinsky. She recalled to Country Weekly: "It was my first time writing with Lee Thomas and I remember going into the writing room that day and Lee Thomas said, 'What do you think of this title?' It was 'Steal Me Away' and I loved it. I said that we just had to write it."

"We agreed about the concept, that we can make it about a relationship or a dream or whatever the listener would want it to mean. We wanted to keep it open-ended. For me, the song is about following my dream of being a country artist. But one of my friends told me that it reminded her of a six-month backpacking trip that she took, you know, just going after something and being crazy."
