Songfacts®:

  • Ollie & Jerry were a California dance-pop duo consisting of drummer Ollie E. Brown and R&B singer Jerry Knight. The pair had previously worked together in the R&B group Raydio – Knight was a founding member singing vocals on their 1977 hit, "Jack and Jill," whilst Brown was a session drummer on all of Raydio's albums.
  • This was recorded as the title theme to the 1984 breakdance-themed movie Breakin' and released as the first single from the film's soundtrack album. The single became a hit, reaching the Top 10 in both the US and UK.
  • Jean-Claude Van Damme was an uncredited background dancing spectator in the movie and he can be seen at one point during the music video.
  • Ollie & Jerry's follow-up single, "Electric Boogaloo," was only a minor hit, peaking at #57 in the UK and reaching the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts. The duo split after the song's release in mid-1985.
