Songfacts®:

  • This the first single by 2009 X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs, from his debut album. Murs co-wrote the song with American songwriters Steve Robson ("What About Now") and Claude Kelly ("My Life Would Suck Without You"). Murs said: "It was important to me to be releasing an original song, and you can blast this one in the car with the windows down and the sun shining."
  • Murs told Digital Spy the story behind the song: "It's about someone I was sort of seeing - it wasn't a major relationship, but I genuinely felt something for her. Every time I met her my heart beat double-time and I just wanted her to give me a sign! Sadly she kept giving me the impression that she didn't like me as much, and ultimately it didn't work out, so that's where the idea of me singing 'Please Don't Let Me Go' came from."
  • In the song's music video Olly circulates at a garden party at an English country house. The clip was filmed on location at a house near Reading, Berkshire and its owner also appeared as an extra.
  • This is one of several reggae-lite tunes on Olly Murs. The singer revealed to The Sun that his music is inspired by the "Lilt Man" adverts from the 1980s. Said Murs: "When you hear the Lilt ads in winter you want to go away. Reggae is the summer sound. I wanted that warm feel on the album."
