Songfacts®:

  • This was originally featured on the 1993 album Esperanto by Elektric Music, a project set up by Karl Bartos, who had recently left Kraftwerk. The track, co-written with OMD's Andy McCluskey, was completely re-worked by his bandmate Paul Humphreys for English Electric, and features former Propaganda singer Claudia Brücken as the voice of the machine.
  • McCluskey temporarily disbanded OMD in 1996 before reuniting with Humphreys and the other former band members for a successful reformation a decade later. In the interim, he founded the girl band Atomic Kitten following advice from Karl Bartos. McCluskey explained to Q Magazine May 2013: "Karl Bartos from Kraftwerk and I were in touch as friends. After OMD I was stuck. He said. 'Well what's selling?' I said, 'Girl Groups.' He said. 'Do it!' Seriously. It was Kraftwerk's idea."
