Songfacts®:

  • This guitar-led Power Pop tune was penned by Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Dougie Poynter of UK Pop-Rockers McFly. The band have accumulated a series of hit singles in their native country, but prior to penning this tune they were best known to most in North America for a bit part in the Lindsay Lohan-starring movie Just My Luck.
  • Working with One Direction was old hat for McFly co-lead singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher, as he previously penned the similarly titled "I Want" for the quintet's debut album Up All Night.
  • The song finds the boys competing for a girl who's already dating a bad boy. Every one of the quintet gets a verse.
  • The song is one of a number of guitar-led tracks on Up All Night. "We want to gradually get more and more 'live' sounding. So this album is a lot less little synth sounds, more guitars and drums," Harry Styles said in the December 2012 issue of Vogue. "It's important to experiment with things — we want to move with the times, but keep true to ourselves."
