Songfacts®:

  • This was originally a track from OneRepublic's 2007 debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. In 2009 it was remastered with new vocals by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and released as the fifth single from the set.
  • This song was written by frontman Ryan Tedder about a soldier friend of his who was serving overseas. Bareilles blogged on her website: "I was so flattered when Ryan asked me to sing on this track." She added: "He also told me the very sentimental story behind the song about a friend of his that was serving in the military and his fiancée at home, and their struggles to get through a very difficult time. It really touched me. He wrote a beautiful song that is both hopeful, and sad, and I feel lucky to have been a part of it".
  • Faith Hill performed this song on the CMA awards in 2011. Ryan Tedder Tweeted his approval: "Just heard Faith Hill's 'Come Home' finally. LOVE IT. It's not a cover- it's hers- she took it to another level. She owned it & beat it."
