Songfacts®:

  • Penned by Loretta Lynn and Teddy Wilburn, this ode to the power of prayer was recorded by Osborne Brothers on their 1969 album Favorite Hymns by the Osborne Brothers. Loretta Lynn recorded the tune three years later on her God Bless America album.
  • This was one of the first songs that country star Josh Turner recalls ever hearing. The Osborne Brothers' Favorite Hymns LP was part of his grandmother's record collection, which served as his introduction to the world of music.

Many years later when Turner started thinking about what songs he wanted to put on his gospel album I Serve A Savior, he returned to his grandma's record collection and came across "I Pray My Way Out Of Trouble." The country star decided to record the tune and he told Billboard that when Bobby Osborne agreed to come in and sing background vocals he felt it was a "full-circle moment" for him.
