  • "You got legs and I got scars," Beverly sings in this song, where he describes a Leaving Las Vegas-style relationship where both parties are deeply troubled. "You're the reason I don't wear my seatbelt anymore," he tells the girl.

Beverly explained the meaning in a Songfacts interview: "My character in this song is going through a lot - possible addiction issues and processing the traumatic end of a relationship. He's having a hard time letting go of some anger and loss."
  • Owen Beverly is best known for his 2003 song "For Mia," which didn't get much attention when it was released, but was revived by Rick Beato on his This Song Should Have Been Massive series.

"Legs And Scars" is a track from his second album, Shooting The Bull, which like his debut EP, was released independently.
  • In the line, "Baby it was just like in that old Emmylou song," the song referenced is "Blackhawk" by Emmylou Harris.
  • "Legs And Scars" has a bit of a legend in South Carolina, where Owen Beverly played it in the Charleston area. In 2009, it was featured on Scene SC blog, which covers music in the area, and featured on their sampler CD 20TEN SceneSC. The blog named it their song of the year, and other local musicians started covering it.
  • It took a while, but Beverly started revisiting his older songs, including "Legs And Scars," with a series of live performances in 2022. "One of my problems has been to always focus on the next song that I'm going to write, thinking the past is just the past," he told Songfacts. "This has been an opportunity to hold a mirror up to me and focus on the older material the same way I focus on new material."
