Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from A Perfect Contradiction was produced by Pharrell Williams and includes backing vocals from the "Happy" star. The pair met when Paloma attended the Met Ball at New York's Metropolitan Museum and Pharrell approached her by singing her song "New York" to her. He then took her phone, put his number in and said 'I'm ready to work'. She texted him whilst still at the ball to check if he was serious, he texted back to confirm that he was, and the pair recorded the track in Miami. Faith told The Daily Star that working with Pharrell, "is just a dream come true as I've been a fan for years.''
  • Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos spotted some apparent similarities between this song and his band's hit single, "Take Me Out." He tweeted: "Hey @Pharrell - I love your tunes. If you want to borrow a riff, just ask."

Kapranos later retracted his accusation, tweeting: "Pharrell Sometimes I forget how easily things can get exaggerated on here. I know you didn't borrow any riffs. Sorry for all the press BS."
  • The Paul Gore directed video features Paloma Faith delivering a voice-over in Italian. "I speak Italian quite well, even though people are criticizing it on YouTube," she told The Metro.

"The video is part of a longer film for this album," Faith added. "I'm dealing with the subject of separation and loss – as I usually am, actually."
  • The artwork for A Perfect Contradiction is based on Italian baroque artist Caravaggio's painting The Entombment Of Christ (1602-03).
