Songfacts®:

  • Written by Australian artist Sia, "Warrior" is sung by Paloma Faith from the viewpoint of someone who is looking for love after suffering for a long time.

Black and blue, I'm begging you
    Take me in, I'm surrendering
Black and blue, but if I'm with you
If I'm with you, I'll live to fight on through

Sia's demo was titled "Black and Blue." However, Paloma Faith had already recorded a song with that name for her 2012 Fall to Grace album, so she changed the name to "Warrior."
  • When Paloma Faith sings this song she interprets it as being about the Syrian refugee crisis. She told The Sun:

"Seeing the footage of those people walking for miles, with children and families being separated, well my heart broke. The analogy I give is like if someone cut a leg off of mine and I knocked on someone's door and said, 'Please can you help me' and they said, 'No, sorry' and shut the door. That's what I feel like we were doing."
  • The string arrangements were written by James Bond composer David Arnold. He also contributed to The Architect title track and "I'll Be Gentle."
