Songfacts®:

  • Trust is a reoccurring theme throughout the Who Do You Trust? album. The title track deals with the issue in terms of our political leaders and the media, while this song concerns how a lack of trust can affect relationships with loved ones.
  • I'm watching all the moves you make
Can't turn back now, it's too late
    Checkmate, there's no defending
This is the start of the ending

Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix told Billboard that he sees trust as "the bedrock for healthy relationships," which is something he's fighting towards.

He added: "Unfortunately, I've been the person that's broken trust in my life at one point or another, so I've been on both sides of it. Feeling the pain of being let down, that's tough stuff. Being the person letting somebody down and hurting somebody, there's a lot of pain and struggle in that too because when all the dust settles and you see the wreckage you've created, for somebody with a conscience like myself, it eventually just eats at you. You've got to reframe how you're living. I've been that point a few times in my life, so trust is definitely an issue."
  • "The Ending" was Papa Roach's sixth #1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart, following "Lifeline," "Face Everything And Rise," "Help," "Born for Greatness" and "Come Around."
  • The song features on the soundtrack for the 2021 horror movie The Retaliators. Jacoby Shaddix also makes his acting debut in the film.

  • Brian from TexasWell, it finally hit me that my enjoyment of Papa Roach music was turned against me in this politically motivated attack on Donald Trump, crossfire hurricane my ass. Hollywood and Music Elites vomit this crap everywhere!! The music industry and Movie Makers should be required by law to label their political creations so those who disagree do not inadvertently spend their American Money on this socialist crap. Why can't you entitled stars just make music and stay the hell out of politics. I think it's time for a truth in advertising disclosure of what you are subliminally putting in people's heads. I kept reflecting on the lyric watching every move you make caught up in a crossfire hurricane. I will be more careful in the future. FULL TRANSPARENCY. that whole bloated lie was BULLs--t!! and you with your politically motivated vomit keep it alive. No more Papa Roach. I'm just sorry I was caught up by the snappy tune and did not realize it earlier, Yall should be ashamed of yourselves. If I was Trump I would sue you for continuing this defamation as it is obviously a debunked now being criminally prosecuted DEMOCRAT LIE.
