Songfacts®:

  • Here, Sir Paul McCartney imagines a romantic encounter at a party back in the Swinging '60s. It finds him picking up a girl after she smiles at him.

Well, I saw you flash a smile, that seemed to me to say
You wanted so much more than casual conversation

McCartney's website described the song as a "raucous stomper that fans that first spark of chemistry into a rocking blaze."
  • McCartney debuted the song during a show at Liverpool's Philharmonic Dining Rooms on June 9, 2018. Ithich was part of the taping of his "Carpool Karaoke" segment for The Late Late Show with James Corden.
  • This was produced by Greg Kurstin, whose clients include Adele, Sia and Foo Fighters.
  • Paul McCartney explained in a video that "Come On To Me" is a "fantasy song" imagining himself in the '60s, at a party "seeing someone and thinking: 'Oh, we should find a place to be alone, maybe exchange information and, hey, you look like you flashed a smile that said you wanted so much more than casual conversation.'"
  • The song's music video combines three separate clips that were released earlier, each featuring a different person dancing to the song.

    1) Bored security guard Fred "Little Freddie" Maxwell, who decides to spice up his boring existence by dancing in the department store

    2) Syrian immigrant Ali Almohri, who works the night shift at his family's food truck. He loves to crank up his boom-box and throw down some moves.

    3) Cleaning lady Elsa Morales, who we see dancing through an office building after the employees have gone home.

All three dancers were discovered by director TG Herrington.
