Songfacts®:

  • This track was produced by Paul Epworth, who was responsible for Adele's Skyfall theme song. It was the first tune that McCartney recorded for his New album. He told The Sun: "I must give Paul Epworth credit for that because he had an idea of how we could kick things off. He just said, 'I was thinking something kind of punkey.' I realized he meant something rocking, up tempo and in your face."

"So we started there and then," continued McCartney, "building up the track. I put some more chords into it, some lyrics. It turned into a real statement of intent."
  • McCartney played every instrument on New other than the drums on the three tracks that Epworth produced. "And I would have played drums as well, but he kept sitting down there," he joked to The Observer.
