Songfacts®:

  • Paul Weller kicks off his Fat Pop (Volume 1) album by imagining the life of a keyboard warrior. He told Uncut magazine this song is about "how everyone seems to have some mad little opinion when they're on the Internet and their opinion is so important, you know."
  • When Weller first did the demo it was quite punky, in a Stooges-like way. In time, he transformed into a "silly camp song," pairing a minimal, pumping electro swing with a deadpan vocal. "I had the idea of stripping it all back to just the drums and bass, putting those synths on it," Weller said on Paul Weller News. "It's got a bit of motoric feel to it and a little bit glam rock too."
  • Weller played most of the instruments on the track, performing electric and bass guitar, piano, drums and percussion. His regular sidekick, Steve Cradock, also contributed electric guitar, and Charles Rees handled drum programming and synth.
  • The Pet Shop Boys did a Triad Remix. "I could hear what they would do and they did exactly that but even better," said Weller. "It's a 12-minute monster!"
