Songfacts®:

  • This song is all about pining for another and hoping that person feels the same way back. It was written by members of a group called the Family Stand: Peter Lord, Jeffrey Smith and Sandra St. Victor. The Family Stand had very modest commercial success, but their 1990 debut album Chain proved that they could tap into the sound of the early '90s and do so in a variety of tempos and genres.

An A&R at Paula Abdul's label named Gemma Corfield put her together with the group, just as she did with Oliver Leiber for her first album. When Songfacts spoke with Peter Lord, he said: "'Blowing Kisses In The Wind' is actually one of my favorite songs I've ever written. It really should be covered again I think. The right country artist could give it a wonderful vibe. Are you listening Allison Cross, Taylor Swift?"
  • Lord wrote the majority of Spellbound, Abdul's second album. Lord told us how he got involved with the record: "My production partner, V. Jeffrey Smith, and I were working on a group called Aftershock for Virgin Records. They were signed to the same label as Paula and we heard she was looking for new material. So we went to work to submit."
