• This song finds Adbul optimistic about the future of a relationship. Abdul wrote the song with Peter Lord, Jeffrey Smith and Sandra St. Victor, who were members of a group called the Family Stand. Smith and Lord also produced the track, delivering the contemporary sound that made the Family Stand song "Ghetto Heaven," a UK Top 10 in 1990.
  
  In a Songfacts interview with Peter Lord, he told us: "Paula had an idea for the title and feel for the song and we built it from there."
• This was Abdul's sixth, and final #1 hit in the US. Her first album contained a staggering four chart-toppers, and the first single from Spellbound - "Rush Rush," also went to #1.
• The video is heavy on composited shots of Abdul and other beautiful people frolicking in meadows, waterfalls and skyscapes. The shots of the people were stretched, which allowed editors to fit more dancers in scenes and also made Paula look thinner - although disturbingly so. The sketch comedy show In Living Color had some fun with this, doing a parody called "Promise Of A Thin Me."
• Spellbound was Abdul's second album. It was a chart triumph, producing two #1s - "Rush Rush" and "The Promise of a New Day" - and three Top 20 hits - "Blowing Kisses in the Wind" (#6), "Vibeology" (#16) and "Will You Marry Me?" (#19). We asked Lord what the secret was behind the album's success: "Never any formula other than writing great well structured songs."
