Songfacts®:

  • Eddie Vedder wrote this song as a lullaby for Zach, the baby of Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons. Zach ended up becoming a musician as well, joining Awolnation as lead guitarist in 2015.
  • "Around The Bend" is the last song on Pearl Jam's fourth album, No Code. The band was into elaborate packaging around this time. Their previous album, Vitalogy, opens up like a book; No Code's artwork is a collage of 144 Polaroid photos that when viewed from a distance reveal a triangle with an eyeball in the middle. One of those photos is the eyeball of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, a huge Pearl Jam fan.
