Songfacts®:

  • "Forget About Us" is the debut solo release by British singer and songwriter Perrie Edwards, who has dropped her surname for her own music. It was released on April 12, 2024, through Columbia Records as her first single after Little Mix began their hiatus in 2022.
  • "Forget About Us" is an uptempo, pop-rock influenced track where Perrie reflects on a past love. It's about cherishing the good memories while acknowledging they've both moved on.

"I look back on past relationships and do think happily about those times. Do I want to be there now? No. It didn't work out that way and if it was supposed to be it would have happened," said Perrie about the euphoric track. "Relationships have been a huge part of my life and they've made me who I am now. I think it's a nice sentiment to be honest about and it's super relatable."
  • Ed Sheeran wrote the first version of "Forget About Us" and sent it to the Little Mix star. Perrie then put her own spin on it. "Ed sent me the song and at the time, the lyrics and concept were very direct to what it was about, she told NME.

Perrie didn't want to take credit for something she didn't write, and she called Ed and asked if she could tweak things to better reflect her own journey. Luckily, Ed was super supportive!

"He was like, 'I want you to take full ownership in it – whatever you're not comfortable with, change it, and we'll work on it from there,'" she said.

So Perrie did a session on Zoom with David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson's "Because Of You," Christina Perri 's "A Thousand Years") and James Arthur collaborator Steve Solomon. Together they reworked the song to make it her own.
  • The song's music video was directed by Jake Nava (Beyoncé, Britney Spears) and shot in Cape Town.
