Songfacts®:

  • This song is about the relationship between US president George Bush and English Prime Minister Tony Blair. They joined forces to make some questionable political decisions, including invading Iraq, and this song expresses how many in the general public consider both men dumb. The song also wonders if they really are stupid or whether it's just a cover up for something ("Is stupid really stupid or a different kind of smart?").
  • The music video features actors David Williams and Matt Lucas (Little Britain) miming to the song in front of an unseen audience, during witch they parody old Pet Shop Boys videos of years gone by. At the end the audience is revealed to be The Pet Shop Boys, who have been bound to their seats. >>>

  • "I'm With Stupid" gave the Pet Shop Boys yet another UK Top 10 hit - their 22nd - when it went to #8. It was the lead single from their ninth album, Fundamental, produced with Trevor Horn. The album was named because it harkened back to the "fundamental" electro sound of the group.

Great song, by the way (I can usually get over questionable viewpoints when the music is this good).
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesHit #8 in the UK over two decades after their debut #1 hit "West End Girls". Not sure but I think it may have been their 40th UK hit single. Back in 1985, most critics expected them to be gone and forgotten within the next year, but...
