Songfacts®:

  • Petula Clark was 80 years old when her Lost in You album was released. She wrote the lyric for this song, which looks back on her extraordinary life: singing as a child in Wales, becoming an international star, and discovering in her later years that the music - and the spirit of the young girl she was - is still in her heart.

She doesn't write many deeply personal songs, but this was an exception. "That really does go back to the truth of my childhood," she said in our interview. "That's exactly how it was."
  • The music for this song was adapted from the Johann Sebastian Bach classical piece "Sleepers Awake." It was her producer, John Williams, who suggested they use the piece.
