Songfacts®:

  • "This Is Our God" is a resounding worship anthem that exalts a God whose love knows no bounds. It celebrates our Lord and Savior who extends unconditional love, bestows grace upon sinners, and responds to those who seek salvation. He rescues individuals from despair, lifting them out of darkness and guiding them into His celestial realm. Through the power of redemption, our God transforms the ashes of despair into something beautiful, renewing the spirit of those who believe. Phil Wickham proclaims, "This is our God, King Jesus," acknowledging the majestic and supreme nature of The Almighty.

"This song is a declaration of who Jesus is and what He's done for us," Wickham told Billboard. "There is so much faith, hope and truth in it."
  • Phil Wickham co-penned the song with Elevation Church lead pastor Steven Furtick, Bethel Music's Brandon Lake, and Houseflies lead singer Pat Barrett. Furtiick, Lake and Barrett also co-wrote Elevation Worship's "Same God" with Chris Brown.
  • Nashville-based producer Jonathan Smith produced "This Is Our God." Other Smith productions for Wickham include "Battle Belongs" and "House Of The Lord."
  • Released on January 13, 2023, "This Is Our God" climbed to the top of Billboard's Christian Airplay chart dated June 3, 2023. It was Wickham's fourth Christian Airplay leader, following "This is Amazing Grace," "Battle Belongs" and "House of the Lord."
  • "This Is Our God" is the lead single from Phil Wickham's ninth studio album, I Believe. Jonathan Smith is the sole producer on the project.
  • In late 2021, Phil Wickham, Jonathan Smith, and a group of collaborators visited the Charlotte, North Carolina campus of Elevation Church, a sprawling multisite megachurch. They met with Brandon Lake and Steven Furtick for a two-day writing retreat. Wickham and his collaborators made the most of the time, writing for over 12 hours each day. The songwriting team birthed a slew of tracks for I Believe, including "This Is Our God."

"Steven is a writer on so many songs that have just blanketed church music across the world," Wickham told Billboard of Furtick. "He understands how to dig deeper to find new ways of phrasing things."
