Songfacts®:

  • This is the opening track from The World From The Side Of The Moon, the debut album from season 11 American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips. The guitar-strumming southerner wrote or co-wrote nine of 12 songs on the record, including this one.
  • The The World From the Side of the Moon album title comes from the first line of this song. When Phillips first announced the name of his debut long player, it left many of his fans bemused. He told MTV News: "Yeah, I saw the reactions, and it was pretty funny. They were like 'That's a stupid title, it doesn't even mean anything!' And I'm like 'You have no idea what's even on the album, so how do you know it doesn't mean anything?' Maybe they still don't know what it means, who knows? But it represents for me, like, watching myself on this whole past year, how I've grown as a person and an artist, and, uh, I really like the title, I thought it was interesting ... [but] maybe I'll go with something different the next time around."
