Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Phillip Phillips' sophomore album, this was written by the singer with Todd Clark, Derek Fuhrmann and Gregg Wattenberg with the latter also producing the track. The same foursome also penned Phillips' hit tune, "Gone, Gone, Gone."
  • The quartet only finished writing the song, barely one week before its March 3, 2014 release. "We sent it to the label - we already had a few other singles, but we sent them that one, and they were really excited and wanted to put it out [immediately]," Phillips explained to Billboard magazine. "It's a love song, but it's also a little heavier, too. It's got a little bit of an edgier side to it, and I really like that."
  • The verses feature some intriguing vocal orchestration. Phillips told Radio.com how it came together: "I wrote that part and I really liked it," he said. "When me and Todd and Derek were writing it, we all agreed that it needed to change from the melody to the first verse a little bit to when the second verse came about. I started playing around in the corner, trying different melodies, and that one came to me. I said, 'Oh dude, that's it!' Then we wrote some lyrics to it. I thought it was a cool melody and how it came about was really interesting."
  • Phillips explained to Access Hollywood that the song is about, "the power of love." He added, "it's just a song wanting to feel those butterflies, you know you love and you know the first time you kissed that person."
