  • This was Brooklyn rapper Phresher's breakthrough single. He recalled to Genius:

"It was one of them ratchet days in the studio. Real ratchet day in the studio. I'm real excited. I had a nice day at the club. I recorded that song in the morning, too. Like 7 o'clock in the morning. I'm fresh out the club. That's one of them 10-bottle-popping days. I went in the studio and I just told the engineer, 'Yo. This is gonna be one of them ratchet ones, man.' I was just excited as f--k, man. Just 'Wait A Minute,' yo. And I started wildin'! I thought it was a cool record. Every four bars, I kept going 'Wait!' That's what took it to another level."
  • The song features guest verses by Curly Savv and Dah Dah, who are rookie rappers from Phresher's neighborhood. He explained that he collaborated with the youngsters to generate some heat with the local teens:

"They got the wave on YouTube crazy. They got the high school kids going crazy," PHresher said. "So, I was like, 'Yo. I'ma definitely do a record with them.' I'm not in high school, you know what I'm saying? They're in high school, so let me do a record with the high school kids and get it going."
  • Phresher is addressing all the doubters and haters.

    Wait, wait, wait a minute
    Wait, wait, wait a minute
    One god damn minute
    Hold up wait a minute
    I start s--t then I finish
    Hard head I don't listen
    Diamonds on my wrist glisten

He explained. "It's about me being a man and you gotta wait. It's on my time and that's more or less what I was trying to get across with the song. It's my time. You gotta wait."
  • "Wait A Minute" was released in the summer of 2016 and became a regional hit. It stirred enough interest for big names like 50 Cent, Waka Flocka Flamem Rema Ma and Royce da 5'9" to jump on the remixes.
