Songfacts®:

  • Pierce The Veil vocalist Vic Fuentes wrote this song for the band's fans that are struggling to fit in. It was inspired by the letters, messages, and conversations that he'd had with them in the two years before the writing and recording of Collide with the Sky. He told Kerrang:

"This one was about finding that place when you're young where you can find some sort of freedom. For me growing up that was going to shows and feeling like you belong with the people around you. It could be a sh--ty venue that looks like it's been torn apart but as long as there's music and a bunch of your friends hanging out you feel like it belongs to you for that brief time. That's where the line 'This is a Wasteland my only Retreat' comes from. That's how I felt as a kid, and hopefully we're offering the same sort of haven that space that you can go to when you're feeling trapped."
