Songfacts®:

  • Here, PinkPantheress teams up with Willow Smith to sing about their relationships with domineering lovers. While PinkPantheress talks about her plans to leave her toxic partner, Willow mourns the romance that didn't fulfill her hopes and dreams. Both agree they wish they'd never met their overbearing paramours.
  • The chorus finds both singers having second thoughts after breaking up. Unable to move on, they ask their exes, "please tell me where you are," as they want to see them again.
  • PinkPantheress first teased the garage song on social media in January 2022 in response to a suggestion from a fan that she feature Willow on a track. She wrote, "I feel like Willow Smith needs to be on this. You have been heard, Da collaboration I dreamt of for years... brb crying."

PinkPantheress released "Where You Are" on April 22, 2022.
  • PinkPantheress co-produced "Where You Are" with British electronic music producer Mura Masa and American DJ Skrillex. The British singer previously collaborated with Mura Masa on his 2022 single "Bbycakes" and her 2021 track "Just For Me," but this is the first time she's worked with Skrillex.
  • According to PinkPantheress, she had a lot of fun writing "Where You Are," though it "took loads of attempts to get it right."
  • "Where You are" samples American rock band Paramore's 2005 track "Never Let This Go" for the instrumental. Consequently, Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams and guitarist Josh Farro also receive songwriting credits.
