Songfacts®:

  • This melancholic song finds the Annies singing about a woman determined to cut co-dependent ties. Pistol Annie Angaleena Presley explained the background to the track in a video:

"My home town in Kentucky is really, really affected by the opioid crisis. I can count on two hands how many funerals I've been to.

There are so many levels to being close to someone who has an addiction issue and this is kind of just one of the layers in the onion and it's after someone has become incarcerated and by that point you've tried everything that you can think of to help your loved one and it's sort of like you have to get to the point where you have to draw a line and have some boundaries.

To the listener it might sound like this woman is cold and uncaring but the reality is her heart is breaking in a million pieces because she has this loved one who there's nothing else that she can do."
