Songfacts®:

  • This song was released on September 25, 2012 as the third single from Global Warming. It was produced by DJ of Dominican descent, Urales "DJ Buddha" Vargas, house music DJ and producer TJR, and Marc Kinchen.
  • The song features and samples TJR's online hit song "Funky Vodka," which itself is based on Toots and the Maytals' classic 1973 reggae number "Funky Kingston." Said TJR: "'Funky Vodka' is probably the track I'm most proud of. It was pretty cool to see an old school sample-based house tune make it to the overall #1 spot on Beatport. Producing fulfills my creative side, but DJing is my release."
  • The raunchy music video was banned from being played on TV in the UK. TV regulators cited 25 violations, deeming it to be too explicit for viewers.
  • Pitbull recorded the song to tell people to forget their current troubles and have fun. "'Don't Stop The Party' featuring TJR was basically a beat that was huge in Europe," he explained. "TJR produced it when we were out there on tour. We were in Stockholm, Beirut Cafe with RedOne. We did 30,000 people in Hanover, 80,000 people in London and 90,000 people in Morocco.

So this is the record of me telling them and the whole world - whether it's a bad global economy, whether it's poverty, wars, you name it - I'm telling them don't stop the party. Enjoy and escape no matter what."
