Songfacts®:

  • "Whim Whamiee" is a song by Atlanta rappers Pluto and YKNiece, released on February 3, 2025. The lyrics are a full-throttle celebration of sex, success, and social dominance - the sort of thing you might expect to hear echoing from a party bus at 2 a.m. on Peachtree Street.
  • The "Whim Whamiee" title is a playful homage to "Whim Wham," a track by Mook B of the seminal Atlanta group D4L. Pluto name-checks Atlanta rapper BunnaB, just in case anyone had forgotten where the genre's epicenter is located. This is unmistakably an Atlanta record, loud, proud, and vibrating with regional flair.
  • The beat, courtesy of Atlanta's own Zaytoven, is a classic example of his signature style: bouncy, bubbly, and vaguely resembling the soundtrack to a video game where every level ends at the club. Zaytoven's other credits include Usher's "Papers," Future featuring Drake's "Used to This," and Migos' "Versace."
  • In 2025, no song could truly be a phenomenon until TikTok got a hold of it. On February 19, @lifeofjordan_ posted a dance video that went viral, focusing on Pluto's line, "He want me bad, heard he a duck, can't get no coochie out the queen, put some Lulu on this butt," and YKNiece's ad-lib "Lululemoooon," referencing the Atlanta-based Lululemon brand. This clip propelled the song's rise on the platform, and later, YKNiece's "I'm talkin' 'bout in it" ad-lib also gained traction.
  • Pluto wrote "Whim Whamiee" after coming across a beat on YouTube that samples DJ Cool Breeze & OJ Da Juiceman's "Wham Bam," which references Mook B's "Whim Wham," the anthem behind one of Pluto's favorite dances. She was instantly hooked.

Pluto didn't hesitate. "When I rap, I be shy, but I was real confident with this one," she told Billboard. After rapping it to a friend, the reaction was immediate: "What the hell? We gotta go to the studio, like tomorrow." They did.
  • The song's momentum built fast. Pluto first teased "Whim Whamiee" on TikTok on January 20, 2025. It went viral, and suddenly her phone lit up with calls from record labels. But she already had a head start. Pluto had been in touch with Motown/Capitol A&R exec Kenoe Jordan since 2024, and by late March, she'd officially signed with Motown Records.
  • An official remix featuring Sexyy Redd dropped on May 30, 2025. Pluto recalled how it came together: "A lot of celebrities were giving me love for the song, and [Sexyy Redd] hit me like, 'Girl, yo s--t fye, keep going.' Two days later, she was like, 'Twin, send me the open.' I was like, 'I'm sending it right now!'"

Once Redd's verse was in, the next step was obvious: shoot the video.
  • "Whim Whamiee" is included on Pluto's debut album, Both Ways. "I specifically named my album Both Ways because I feel that I am a versatile rapper," she said. "I can make shake-that-butt music, but I can also make drill music. I can do a lil love song!"
