Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Pink's seventh studio album, the songstress penned the tune with Jack Antonoff, The latter also produced the song.

Jack Antonoff is best known as the frontman of Bleachers and lead guitarist of the pop-rock band fun. His previous credits include collaborations with Taylor Swift ("Out Of The Woods," "I Don't Wanna Live Forever") as well as co-writing and producing Lorde's Melodrama album.
  • Pink croons during the song about how personal trauma can cause problems in relationships. She tweeted:

"I wrote the song with a very awesome person @jackantonoff and named the album after it (because) life is f---ing traumatic. But it's also incredibly beautiful, too. There's a lot of beauty still and beautiful souls. Enjoy."
  • Pink compares love to a drug in a similar fashion to her 2002 hit "Just Like A Pill."

    The pill I keep taking
    The nightmare I'm waking
There's nothing, no nothing, nothing but you
    My perfect rock bottom
    My beautiful trauma
My love, my love, my drug, oh

Seems Pink can't stop singing about a dangerously addictive relationship.
  • Pink sang "Beautiful Trauma" in a gravity-defying performance on November 19, 2017 at the American Music Awards. She delivered the tune while hanging by high wire while walking along the side of the JW Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles. Pink was accompanied by several members of the Bandaloop troupe, who specialize in such high-flying performances.

It was Pink's choreographers, RJ Durrell and Nick Florez, who came up with the idea after coming across the troupe on social media. "We found a company called Bandaloop, they are aerial dancers and this is what they do, they dance at high heights all over the world," Durrell told the US breakfast show Good Morning America. "We found them on Instagram and sent them to Pink and said, 'We need to do this', and she said, 'Yeah, we do!'"
  • The '50s-inspired music video features Pink with actor Channing Tatum as her husband. As Fred and Ginger Hart, the pair live a seemingly mundane life, but there is a murky reality lurking beneath the surface. Ginger is a sexually frustrated housewife who is desperate to get the spark back in her marriage by any means necessary, from martinis to bondage. At one point, she's excited to discover Fred hiding in the closet in one of her dresses and experiments with a wardrobe-swapping scenario.

Pink already had a connection to the actor, whose then-wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, was one of her former backup dancers. The clip was directed and choreographed by RJ Durrell and Nick Florez.
  • Pink sang this on Saturday Night Live on October 14, 2017.
  • This was used in the 2019 animated movie UglyDolls.
  • Beautiful Trauma was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards in 2019, but lost to Ariana Grande's Sweetener.
  • By the time she released Beautiful Trauma in 2017, Pink hadn't released an album under her own name in five years, the last being 2012's The Truth About Love. In 2014, she released the collaborative album rose ave. with Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green as You+Me before embarking on a hiatus to focus on her family; in 2016, she had her second child, Jameson.
