Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a regretful sexual experience. When Pink sings: "One night to you lasted six weeks for me," it indicates how painful this experience was and how long it kept tormenting her. The line, "No more waking up to innocence" could indicate that she has lost her virginity and will be hesitant in all her future relationships. >>>

  • In The Independent March 25, 2006, Pink said that the song was based on a poem she wrote when she was 13: "I know a lot of people that have been abused and/or molested and/or f--ked over by someone close to them. And I'm no exception. And that's that song."
  • "Long Way To Happy" debuted on Pink's fourth studio album, I'm Not Dead. The track was co-written and produced by Butch Walker, formerly of the rock band Marvelous 3. Walker has worked with an array of artists, including Fall Out Boy, Weezer, Avril Lavigne, and Taylor Swift.
  • After being exhausted by the promotion and criticism of her previous album, Try This, Pink didn't expect to become so emotionally involved with I'm Not Dead. She explained in a 2007 interview: "I guess I was just kind of at that place where I felt like I kind of had something to add to the world, I feel like there's a hole and I know how to fill it, people aren't talking trash anymore. I was just feeling really creative and really emotionally available again, and it came out great."
