Songfacts®:

  • This song features Eminem, who delivers a verse about being cheated on. Pink said during an appearance on UK morning TV show Lorraine that her collaboration with the legendary rapper came after a love letter and a "lot of wine."

"I reached out to him in this case," Pink said. "I love him. I've always loved him. I think he's a lyrical genius, and I just wrote him a love letter. I had written this song. I had went to the studio and drank a lot of wine, I wrote 'Revenge.'"

"And then, I went home and drank more wine because that's what you do when you've already drank a lot of wine - you think more wine is a good idea - and I wrote him an email and I said, 'I love you. I've always loved you. I've loved you since you gave me your autograph at the 2001 MTV Music Video Awards. I love that you always work with the same people.' I just wrote this love letter."

Eminem replied with a simple "OK", then sent Pink his verse from Rio de Janeiro.
  • The lighthearted song finds a scorned Pink out to get revenge. The songstress told Lorraine: "It's funny. It's fun. There's nothing serious about it. It's fun. My mom loves it."
  • This is the third collaboration between Pink and Eminem. They previously linked up for the Detroit rapper's 2010 track "Won't Back Down" and the Pennsylvania songstress' 2012 cut "Here Comes The Weekend."
  • The song features Pink's first-ever rap. The Pennsylvania native recalled to Australia's Telegraph newspaper that in her groveling email to Eminem, she asked the hip-hop star, "I wrote my first rap song, please don't laugh at me, would you be on it with me?'"
  • Eminem addresses Pink in his verse, rapping:

You hit the ATM in my Mercedes Benz
With all your lady friends - whores!

The Guardian asked Pink if she minded Marshall Mathers calling her a whore. She replied:

"The reason I love Eminem is, number one, I think he's a lyrical genius, I think he's one of the best that ever did it. I think he's funny as s--t. I don't think he believes in any of the s--t he says. Otherwise, why would he respect a woman like me? Which he does. And I think he's one of those people that likes to take the piss out of all the s--t we hold so precious and so dear. I think all of us get a little too serious at times and that's why I think it is hilarious that he says, 'You're a whore, you're a whore, this is war.' I've called (husband) Carey a whore like 50,000 times."
  • This appears on Pink's seventh studio album, Beautiful Trauma. The pop album covers a variety of themes, from tragedy to politics to relationship struggles, but Pink didn't want the release to be a chronicle of misery, which accounts for the humorous "Revenge." She told Entertainment Weekly: "There was no other goal than to not have an album full of slow, sad songs."
