Songfacts®:

  • Pink and her frequent collaborator Billy Mann wrote this honest look at what happens to a once-hot relationship when the passion dies. The lyrics probably stem from the singer's tumultuous marriage with professional motocross racer Carey Hart. The couple separated in February 2008 but reconciled two years later after receiving marriage counseling.
  • The British music production and songwriting team Tracklacers, who consist of Jon Keep and Steve Daly, produced the song. Their other credits include two tracks on girl group The Saturdays' On Your Radar album, "Wish I Didn't Know" and "Promise Me."
  • The Truth About Love brought Pink back into the recording studio less than a year after giving birth to year daughter, Willow. The singer told Billboard what it was like getting back into songwriting: "I was calling it an experiment until it wasn't an experiment. I had 40 songs and it worked out. I'm like a faucet - there's nothing going on in my head when I'm off. I write in a journal and that's it. But that first day in the studio just opened up the faucet."
  • The Truth About Love was Pink's first #1 album in the US, but she didn't learn about the chart milestone until 2019. She assumed her subsequent release, Beautiful Trauma, was her first #1, followed by the chart-topping Hurts 2B Human. When Billboard informed her she had not two, but three #1s, she was shocked. "That album went #1?" she asked of The Truth About Love. "Again, no one tells me anything."
