  • On Christmas Eve 1989, Poison lead singer Bret Michaels' huge Polynesian bodyguard died alone in his Palm Springs hotel room. His name was Kimo, and much like the rest of the band, he became heavily involved with alcohol, drugs, and women, which had taken a toll on his health. Kimo was also a personal friend of Michaels and when the Poison vocalist was informed of his mate's death, he reacted by locking himself in his room and writing this song. Kimo can be seen in the video.
  • This song is not only about Kimo, but also Bret's cousin Bob who was wounded in Vietnam. In the June 10, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone, Michaels said: "All the songs I write have a bazillion verses. 'Something to Believe In' is one of the only songs to get played on radio that's over six minutes long. There's an acoustic version somewhere that's 28 minutes long."
  • In 2003, Poison recorded an acoustic version with new lyrics. It was included on their Best of Ballads & Blues album.

  • Pete from Cuyahoga FallsYeah it's a poignant song. But Brett sings it like we should all care about these things happening...and we should...but what is Brett doing about it? In 1990 was Brett concerned about Vietnam vets and homeless people? Based on his behavior at the time, no...he was the same superficial hedonistic rock and roller as others, living 100% for himself. But he's going to preach like we should all feel guilty for the plight of others. But he won't! He's partying!
  • Desarae Cantrell from Ezel, KyI am almost 52 years old. And, I'm as big a fan of Poison & Brett Michaels, today, as I was over 30 years ago!... Can't wait to see them in June, with Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Joan Jett!.... I'm so excited, I can't hardly stand it!...lol Keep rockin' out guys!
  • Brenda Leslie from Louisville Ky I enjoy your songs. This one really gets me a thinking. Give me something to believe in is really is a heartfelt song. In some ways people can relate to it. Losing someone is the hardest thing to deal with. Putting your feelings into a song like you did, I'm sure it wasn't easy at all. The way I feel these people inspired you to write a good song pertaining to them. In some cases I believe they gave you something to believe in.
  • AnonymousBret your song is truth. And you sing it as if your looking for an answer. When you already know what the answer is as you sing it in your song. Jesus saves and whether they died alone in a motel room,or in war you can believe they are in heaven or hell. And you can believe this Jesus is the answer. And you could reach millions of people and tell them they do have something to believe in, they are not alone. And no matter what this life brings they have a choice ,this life will pass away. You want something to believe in BELIEVE IN JESUS
  • Keith from Mainethis song hits one hard

we've all felt our faith shaken by misery, loss and heartbreak as this song evokes those memories in us that hurt and wonder why it is allowed while we munch on our big macs and chicken tenders and then one becomes a vegetarian and wonders how they could have caused so much misery, loss and heartbreak as we slowly find out that from the garden of eden until the flood humans were only allowed to eat vegetation and that noah was the last bible patriarch to live over 650 years and the first allowed to eat meat

jesus ended the passover slaughter that used to fill jerusalem knee deep in baby lamb's blood and replaced it with the eucharist

'beneath the broken old neon sign that used to read 'jesus saves'

i asked for something to believe in when this was my favorite song and found that
  • Rob from CaEveryone needs to listen to this song during the 2020 holiday season and reflect on what the year we have had.
  • Imran Khan from Houston, TxThis is one of most heartfelt, genuine and moving songs that I have heard. I used to get emotionally overwhelmed listening to the anguish and angst expressed by Brett when describing how unfair life seems and how he questions God to explain to him how some people have it so bad while others so good. It is spot on when it talks about how the so-called spiritual healers take advantage, how wars leave deep emotional scars on a soldier, how difficult it becomes to cope with the pain of losing someone you care about. Ultimately, it shakes your inner core and makes you wonder why is there so much misery, poverty, and pain in life. Why is it that only a mile away there are people who can afford to drink from the golden cup while others literally have nothing to eat or drink. Thanks Bret for leaving us with such a timeless gem.
