Songfacts®:

  • This was Polly Scattergood's debut single. She explained to The Guardian September 16, 2008 that the song refers to, "a friend of a friend who was really sick from cancer, this young guy who was only 30 and had a great, happy life but was slowly deteriorating. It's about the fragility of life."
  • Even though the song's subject matter is the singer's realization that nothing is forever, Polly believes the lyrical content to be upbeat. She explained to The Sun March 6, 2009: "It's not a sad song about death or anything. It makes me smile and think of the people I love. I find it a happy song."
