  • "The Weather" is the title track of the Australian psychedelic rock band Pond's seventh album. The song contrasts luxury items (lace, champagne) with the shameful treatment of the native people in the country. "It's about the aborigine folks who were dispossessed," keyboard player Jamie Terry said in a Songfacts interview.
  • Lead singer Nicholas Allbrook said that this song is about how to "live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful."
  • Shedding some light on the forces that shaped this song, Allbrook told BIRP: "Australians are really apathetic about the rest of the world because we're comfortable as white people. We've inherited the cushiest end of the British Empire after the most f--ked lead-up. We're slowly trying to pull us out of this quite embarrassing apathy and out-and-out racism that pervades a lot of Australia. But it's also beautiful, pure, and people can be kind to each other."
  • The line, "The worst-case scenario survival game." refers to a board game with that exact title. In the game, players answer questions about escaping from dire scenarios, like how to fend off a shark. "I was living in France for a while last year, and things happened that made me think of the game and the times when everything innocent and fun turns to the other side cold and dark and loud and it looks and feels so surreal and so slow," Allbrook posted on Facebook.
