Songfacts®:

  • An early Pop Evil song, "100 In A 55" was written and released before the band signed to a major label. They had been hustling in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for years, playing cover songs to pay the bills while developing their own music. In this track, frontman Leigh Kakaty sings about going full speed ahead, hoping it will pay off:

I still believe in this rock n' roll
And I pray the music's gonna save my soul

"I never wanted a desk job," he told Songfacts. "I just couldn't do it. So I knew early on in life what I didn't want to be."

He and the band got their wish when "100 In A 55" took off in their home state of Michigan and got them signed to a major label.
  • According to Kakaty, this song was written on July 15, 2005 with hopes that Kid Rock would record it. That didn't happen, but they ended up recording the song in Grand Rapids with two of Kid Rock's cohorts: Al Sutton and Marlon Young. Both are credited as producers on the song, and Young has a writing credit along with the band.
  • The music video was directed by Jason Honeycutt and stars Sara Jean Underwood, Playboy's Playmate of the Year for 2007.
