Songfacts®:

  • Popcaan is a Jamaican artist known for his work as a deejay and dancehall singer-songwriter. He gained international fame with the release of his hit song "Clarks" in 2010, which he recorded with Kartel. In 2018, Popcaan signed with Drake's record label OVO Sound and Warner Records. This collaboration with Popcaan's friend and OVO label boss is the lead single off his fifth album, Great Is He.
  • "We Caa Done" combines a light and breezy musical style with assertive and potentially defensive lyrics. The song begins with an introduction from Popcaan, followed by a pre-chorus from Drake in which he addresses in patois those who might think these two experienced artists are no longer relevant.

Popcaan takes the first verse and boasts about his skills as a musician and a lover. In the second verse, he notes that his appeal to women extends beyond Jamaica and becomes more serious, mentioning the words of wisdom from his late grandmother and the difficulties that sometimes influence his vocal performances.

"'We Caa Done' is all about persevering," Popcaan told Apple Music. "We don't think about limits. We're living the life we've dreamed of, and despite what the haters and naysayers have to say, we will only be greater."
  • This is the fourth official collaboration between Popcaan and Drake. It follows their 2017 unreleased version of Wizkid's "Come Closer," "My Chargie," and two 2020 tracks, "All I Need" and "Twist & Turn," taken from the Jamaican singer's dancehall mixtape, Yiy Change Fixtape.

Popcaan has previously made uncredited contributions to two Drake tracks: The outro of "Know Yourself" on If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and the original version of "Controlla" (though not on the Views album version).

Also, Drake's 2016 hit "Too Good," featuring Rihanna, samples and interpolates Popcaan's 2014 song "Luv Yuh Bad."
  • Tresor and Batundi produced the track. They previously collaborated with Drake on his Certified Lover Boy song "Fountains." Congolese-born songwriter/producer Tresor also co-wrote five Honestly, Nevermind cuts, including "Massive."
  • OVO mainstay Theo Skudra shot the video on the Turks and Caicos islands. We see the pair partying and jumping on jet skis amid the beautiful scenery.

Skudra may have the filmed the clip in August 2022, when Drake, Popcaan, and NBA star Kevin Durant took a trip to Turks and Caicos. During their vacation, the group was spotted enjoying jet skiing and posing for photos by the water.
