Songfacts®:

  • This futuristic instrumental is the title track to Porcupine Tree's fourth album, Signify. Early on, the group was the solo project of Steven Wilson, but by this time he had three band members, including Richard Barbieri, who played the synthesizers on this one. Wilson was still the primary songwriter and he composed this tune.
  • Steven Wilson was really into krautrock (German electronic music) at the time, and used that as an influence on this song. He had previously covered a song called "Hallogallo" by the German band Neu!, which gave him the idea for "Signify."
