  • Portishead is a trip-hop band formed in Bristol, England, but they curiously named themselves after the small town of Portishead, the home town of Geoff Barrow, despite claiming to hate this place.
  • Before releasing their debut album Dummy in 1994, they released a short film with a spy theme called To Kill A Dead Man and also composed the accompanying music.
  • The band was founded in 1991 by keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow and singer Beth Gibbons, who writes the melodies and lyrics. During the production of Dummy they were joined by former Jazz guitarist Adrian Utley.
  • After the tremendous success of Dummy, the media pressure was too much to handle for singer Beth Gibbons, so that she refused to do any interviews since that time. >>
