Songfacts®:

  • Here, Post Malone discusses the way his newfound celebrity status has impacted his relationships.

Used to have friends now I got enemies
Used to keep 'em close, now they dead to me
Used to have friends now I got enemies
    Enemies, yeah, it's so sad

This is not the first time Post has rapped about how his former friends have turned on him since finding success. On his Beerbongs & Bentleys track "Paranoid" he reflects:

Even family and friends started switchin'
Ever since I got that check, seen 'em itchin'
Sometimes feel like I got no friends
  • Malone explained the song's meaning on a Spotify track by track: "The whole idea of it was that I used to have people who I thought were my friends but turns out they're really not. You find that a lot so we made a song about it!"
  • DaBaby contributes a guest verse in which he sends some jabs to backstabbing friends. He tells them that because of all he has achieved, he doesn't need them anymore.
  • Post Malone and DaBaby wrote the song with:

Billy Walsh, who is Post Malone's go-to writing partner. The Canadian singer-songwriter has also contributed to several of Alicia Keys' songs including "In Common" and "Back to Life."

Louis Bell, who has supplied the production for many of Post Malone's hit tunes, including "Rockstar," "Psycho," "Better Now" and "Goodbyes." The American producer has also contributed to several Hot 100 chart-toppers, including ones by Camila Cabello ("Havana") and Jonas Brothers ("Sucker").
