Songfacts®:

  • Over a hard trap beat, Post Malone laments his relationship troubles.

I want you out of my head
I want you out of my bedroom tonight

The girl is spiting Post and irritating him by her incessant talking. He realizes they are incompatible and wants to remove her from his life; however, despite his desire to initiate the breakup, Malone admits to being "no good at goodbyes."
  • The song features a guest verse from Young Thug. The Atlanta rapper has a different slant on the relationship theme, insisting he wants to reconnect with a girl.
  • Though this marks the first time the pair have ever laid down vocals on a track together, Post Malone previously produced Young Thug's 2018 cut "Me Or Us."
  • For production on the track, Post Malone linked up again with frequent collaborator Louis Bell ("Rockstar," "Psycho" and "Better Now)."

The other co-producer is Brian Lee, who contributed towards Camila Cabello's smash hit "Havana." The Korean-American producer also has ties to K-pop, having written for artists such as Blackpink and G-Dragon.
  • The gritty music video was directed by Colin Tilley and shot in Santa Clarita outside of Los Angeles. The clip starts with a face-off between Malone and a gang member; the pair are both vying for the affection of girl played by Big Little Lies actress Kathryn Newton. After Malone is stabbed and killed by his love rival, he emerges from his grave and stumbles through the town as the townspeople look at him in shock. He enters a bar, where he comes across Young Thug performing to the same crowd that witnessed his killing earlier on.
  • This was the first time Colin Tilley had worked with Post Malone. He told Billboard that before the shoot the Texan native gave him two notes: "Yo, I want to die in a knife fight and come back as a zombie." Tilley then wrote the entire concept's storyline within three hours.
