Songfacts®:

  • "I Had Some Help" is the lead single from Post Malone's first country album. He ropes in Nashville star Morgan Wallen for a down-home duet about the messy realities of a love gone south.
  • Malone and Wallen trade verses where each addresses the woman they're breaking up with. These ladies accuse the dudes of causing all the trouble, but Malone and Wallen tell them they share the responsibility for the relationship's demise.
  • Malone and Wallen brought together some of their regular collaborators to help them craft the song.

In Post Malone's corner, you've got his go-to producer Louis Bell cooking up the beats. Over on Morgan Wallen's side, there are three of his regular writing partners: Charlie Handsome, Ashley Gorley, and Ernest.

Bell and Handsome brought the whole thing to life in the studio, helped by London-based producer Hoskins.
  • The world got its first taste of "I Had Some Help" live on April 28, 2024, at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California. Both Malone and Wallen had separate sets, but Wallen surprised the crowd by bringing Malone out for a performance of the new song.

Malone's Stagecoach set was a love letter to the country genre. He belted out fan-requested covers of Nashville classics, showing his respect for his country music roots.
  • Malone had been dropping hints about his fondness for country music for a while. Fans at a surprise Nashville show got a treat when the tatted-faced rapper covered Hank Williams' classic "Honky Tonk Blues." He also guested on "Levii's Jeans," a track from Beyoncé's country album, Cowboy Carter.
  • Shot by Chris Villa in the heart of Joshua Tree, the video starts with Malone drowning his sorrows in a barroom after a fight with his girl. He gets tossed out for singing his blues a little too loud, bumps into Wallen, then a truck full of beautiful women sweeps them both away for a wild night.
  • "I Had Some Help" debuted at #1 on the Hot 100, giving Post Malone his sixth leader on the tally and Wallen his second.
  • "I Had Some Help" topped both Billboard's Country Airplay chart and Pop Airplay tally. This rare feat was only previously achieved by Taylor Swift's "Love Story" in 2008 and 2009.
  • Morgan Wallen was the big winner at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards, taking home four prizes. He won The Song of 2024 for his feature on "I Had Some Help," The People's Artist, The Concert Tour for his One Night at a Time trek, and the Social Country Star of 2024.
