Ständchen (Wachst, Liebchen, Du In Stiller Nacht?)

Album: not on an album (1835)

Songfacts®:

  • The title of this German song translates into English as "Wake Up, Sweetheart, You Can Find Silent Night". This was apparently written as a poem by Ernst I Anton Karl Ludwig Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha (1784-1844); it was set to music by his son, Prince Albert, who married Queen Victoria in February 1840.

Albert probably composed the music before his marriage, but the Queen was also very musical, and it is quite likely they performed it together with him at the piano. >>
