Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from PLECTRUMELECTRUM, which was recorded live with Prince's band 3rd Eye Girl , a trio comprised of guitarist Canadian Donna Grantis, American drummer Hannah Ford Welton and Danish bassist Ida Nielsen. 3rd Eye Girl are named after a track from 1997's Truth, a bonus album included in the Crystal Ball box set.
  • Like the rest of PLECTRUMELECTRUM, this grungy empowerment anthem takes on a heavier rock sound than Prince's other 21st century material. Donna Gratis told Uncut magazine how the album was put together: "The process of how songs are arranged as very organic, and often comes out of us jamming together," she said. "Mostly we're at Paisley Park, but we did spend some time in the studio in London. Sometimes we'll go in that two in the afternoon and stay till six in the morning. We usually six days a week, 10 to 16 hours a day."

"At Paisley, I'm to Hannah's right, Ida is to Hannah left, and Prince is in front of Hannah," she continued. "We are set up to record the same way we play live. There is a song out called "FIXURLIFEUP, and that is a good indicator of what the rest of the album will be like: very guitar heavy, very edgy, sounds huge."
  • The video was directed by Sanaa Hamri (Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass"). The clip starts with the same split-screen mirror effect that was used in the visual for "When Doves Cry" and the live crowd portion was filmed in San Diego during Prince and 3rd Eye Girl 's Live Out Loud tour.
