Songfacts®:

  • Priyanka Chopra is an Indian film actress and singer. Raised by an army doctor father, she grew up living all over the world – including Boston and New York. The 2000 Miss World was signed by Universal Music Group in a worldwide recording agreement with DesiHits and RedOne's 2101 label. This was released as her debut single and proved to be especially success in her native India where it was certified triple platinum.
  • The Ester Dean penned song pays homage to Chopra's nomadic childhood. She told the Hindustan Times that the song is, "about being proud of where I come from. It's inviting the world to my city and my city could be anywhere."
  • This was chosen to be the theme song to the 2013 season of the NFL Network's Thursday Night Football with the first game pitting the New York Jets against the New England Patriots. "Having grown up in both New York and Boston, two major [rival] football cities and coincidentally the two teams playing the night of my big debut, it's nothing short of surreal to be with the NFL as the opening act for Thursday Night Football," said Chopra. "'In My City' was my first single, it has a very special place in my heart, and I am beyond excited to bring the amazing energy of the track to the NFL's passionate fans."
  • Joseph Kahn, who was also the mastermind behind Ester Dean's "Drop It Low" promo, directed the dance-centric music video.
