Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the fourth official single from Professor Green's second studio album, At Your Inconvenience. It finds the English rapper linking with Sierra Kusterbeck, who is the lead singer of American rockers Versaemerge, giving the song an alternative-rock feel.
  • Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend. According to Geoffrey of Monmouth's 1136 account, The History of the Kings of Britain, it was the place where King Arthur's sword Excalibur was forged and later where the wounded Arthur was taken to recover after the Battle of Camlann.
  • Green's "Read All About It" collaborator Emeli Sandé came to him with the chorus, which he loved. He told Irish State Broadcaster RTÉ: "It would've been easy to just do what most rappers do and chat a whole load of bravado that didn't really mean anything to anyone. But I really dug my heels in and got into the concept. That was hard because I had to make sense of Arthur and his sword and Avalon - which is the place he retreated to when he was injured - and the whole Lady of the Lake thing. I had to make that make sense to everyone else, so that took me a while to write. But I think spending the time on it really made it into the song it is. "
  • Green reworked the song for a television advert that promoted Relentless Energy Drink.
  • The single version was different from the original album track having been remixed by Mark 'Spike' Stent.
