Songfacts®:

  • This single from Growing Up In Public features the vocals of Tori Kelly. The Californian singer-songwriter is of Irish, Puerto Rican, Jamaican and German ancestry and cut her teeth on Star Search and America's Most Talented Kids. She is managed by Scooter Braun, the guy behind the careers of such stars as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
  • The song's music video was directed by Alex Herron, (Tinie Tempah, Afrojack) and shot in Los Angeles and the surrounding desert area. The clip is about a young boy and his grandfather, who becomes ill and ends up in hospital.
  • Professor Green suffers from depression and spent much of 2013 in a dark place after getting hit by a car. This personal track finds the rapper opening up about his struggles. He told Digital Spy: "The song is about depression but it's not a depressing song it's about the result, and the last lines are the most important: 'Things always change as long as you give them the chance to.'"

"The shame is when people make a bad decision and they don't give things a chance," he added. "It's a big problem for men and women, but the problem that men suffer more is that you already have the pressure of having to be a man. Weakness is not a manly quality so you feel like you can't be and that makes it all the harder because when you don't talk to anyone everything stays in here. When you keep your problems to yourself they have the tendency to manifest and become much more serious than it ever was."

"There's a lot of things that might seem constructive but they're not, like 'Cheer up!' is not constructive," Green continued. "Talking is important so hopefully ['Lullaby'] raises awareness a little bit more and makes people think, 'If I can talk about it in such a public way, they can talk to a friend about it'."
