  • What would Puddle Of Mudd do if they got hold of a spaceship? The answer is in this song: they'd go to a galaxy far, far a-wasted and look for some really hot aliens.

"It's just a little sexy-type song," lead singer Wes Scantlin said in a Songfacts interview. "It's basically, one of these days we're all going to have our own spaceships, so you might want to take your date on a little cruise to Uranus."
  • "Spaceship" was the lead single from Puddle Of Mudd's fourth album, Volume 4: Songs In The Key Of Love & Hate. Their following had been dwindling since their breakthrough debut album Come Clean in 2001, which included hits like "Blurry" and "She Hates Me." Much of this had to do with a shift in musical trends that left rock bands like PoM out in the cold. The group took an extended break after the album was released and returned in 2019 with Welcome To Galvania. Scantlin was still at the helm, but with an entirely different lineup.
  • The music video was directed by Petro Papahadjopoulos, whose credits include "Rules And Regulations" by Rufus Wainwright and "Levels" by Avicii. It opens with a Star Wars-style scroll, then the bands heads to space in a beat-up RV, where they encounter some lovely alien life forms. Stars from the action-sports reality show Nitro Circus also show up.
  • Puddle Of Mudd guitarists Paul Phillips and Christian Stone are credited as writers on this song along with Wes Scantlin. Phillips had replaced Stone in the band by the time the album was released.
