Songfacts®:

  • "Born To Cry" is a fairly obscure song even by Pulp standards - it was included on the soundtrack album to the 1999 film Notting Hill, except only on the UK version - and strangely the song doesn't actually feature in the film itself. It remained a hidden gem for the longest time, until it got an unusual live debut - at the band's very last show! It was played in the band's farewell show at Motorpoint Arena Sheffield in December 2012, with Richard Hawley - a friend of the band and who's own solo career had been inspired and encouraged by Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey back in 2000 (Mackey being an ex-classmate of Hawley), guesting on-stage adding extra guitar, as he did regularly during their reunion tour.

  • Wordmaster from NzWas also a bonus track on the Australian release of Notting Hill soundtrack. No idea why it was never a single release. Best thing they ever did.
